How can the peaceful coexistence of different population groups in the province of South Kivu be made possible? Connexio develop supports solutions to get closer to this goal.
A Council of Religions for Peace and Emergencies (CMCRP) aims to improve peaceful coexistence and socio-economic resilience between the different population groups in the high plateaus of Uvira and Fizi.
Women are crucial to the peace process in the Congo. They are networked, motivated and interested in a solution-oriented approach. As they are used to working with limited resources, they are economical and careful with the means entrusted to them. Their openness to new approaches, their creative potential and their courage make them pioneers.
Women have experienced extreme suffering in their social environment and in their families as a result of wars and domestic violence.
Women from different communities form a choir, develop and sing peace songs, rehearse sketches in which topics of everyday violence and their conflict resolution are addressed, perform in public and raise awareness in their surroundings, thus creating a space as active peace ambassadors to strive for peaceful coexistence across group boundaries.
This project is co-financed by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation SDC, Federal Department of Foreign Affairs FDFA, through a program contribution.
In order to reduce conflicts between population groups and in the interplay of social identities and stereotypes, synergies between religious denominations should be strengthened.
The aim is to strengthen social cohesion and socio-economic resilience in the communities affected by armed conflicts in the Uvira and Fizi plateaus.
In the context of the elections and the tensions between the communities in the high plateaus in Uvira and Fizi, the protection and dignity of the local communities should be promoted.
