Future for migrants

The Methodist Church in Chile has been working with migrants for more than 15 years. They offer a lunch table or after-school care for children or accompany migrants to ministries. The church is a place to eat, but it is also a place of protection and rest. It is a place to get information and make contact with the Chilean population.

The project supports particularly vulnerable migrants by providing emergency aid, legal and health advice and pastoral care.

SRF has made a "mitenand" report on this. It can be found here.

Chile has long been considered a country of immigration. While until 2015 it was mainly people from neighboring countries such as Bolivia and Peru who immigrated and mainly worked in the border regions in the north, the migration picture changed noticeably from 2015 onwards. Increasingly, people from more distant countries such as Colombia, Venezuela and Haiti came with the hope of a better future.

In addition to the migration experience, which often entails losses, these people have also suffered violence, which has traumatized them further. In the case of Haiti, they also lack a common language. The Methodist Church in Chile has been working with migrants for more than 15 years.

This project is co-financed by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation SDC, Federal Department of Foreign Affairs FDFA, through a program contribution.
