The city of Santa Cruz in the Bolivian lowlands is characterized by a high level of inequality and exclusion. Many children and young people are affected by poverty, violence and drug abuse. Schools and families are often unable to overcome these challenges on their own.
The Bienal Infanto Juvenil Fundación SEPA encourages children and young people to make problems visible and sensitize them to possible solutions.
For almost thirty years, SEPA employees have been committed to the rights of children and young people in Santa Cruz, especially in resource-poor suburbs where many young people join gangs. The starting point should be the everyday experience of the children and young people themselves.
In self-diagnosis workshops, primary and secondary school pupils identify the problems they face in their everyday lives and develop proposals to overcome them. They then present these to the public through artistic and socio-cultural performances.
The aim of the project is to sensitize children and young people, as well as teachers and parents, to the prevention of violence, drug abuse and exclusion.
