Women in Cambodia have hardly any access to capital to implement their own business ideas. Youen Chansan from Kampong Chhnang is one of them: For a long time, she tried to make a living from rice cultivation and livestock farming - without success.
Then she found out about the savings and lending group in her village that Connexio develop supports. Youen joined the group, started saving money herself and gained valuable financial knowledge through training. With her first loan, she bought goods and opened a small store in the village - with things that you would otherwise have to travel to the big city for: Tools, seeds, bicycle inner tubes.
The small loan has now turned into a real business that Youen can use to provide for her family independently. The assets built up by her savings group are reinvested wisely: for example in school fees, visits to the doctor and new small businesses.
What Youen has built up also inspires others: The women from her community feel encouraged to build their own livelihoods - together we support them!
