Connexio Mission Talk with Bishop Américo Jara Reyes
Mission Talk brings people together - online. This time in conversation: Bishop Américo Jara Reyes from Argentina
The «Connexio Mission Talks» format gives you the opportunity to invite guests to your home - simply by taking part in a one-hour ZOOM conversation via your computer.
Why?
The aim of these "Connexio Mission Talks" is to come into direct contact with people from the partner churches, to hear from them what is on their minds and to strengthen our common bond.
When and where?
The next talk will take place on 2. March at 7.30 p.m.: Argentina - protesting as a church and alleviating need
Inflation, which rose sharply after the election of President Javier Milei in November 2023, has fallen again. However, the state is cutting funding for education, healthcare and pensions. This is causing great hardship for many people.
«Enough is enough!», wrote Bishop Américo Jara Reyes in a public statement back in spring 2024. Since then, the Methodist Church has regularly protested and demonstrated against human rights violations and for the rights of vulnerable groups of people. At the same time, various congregations organize lunch tables or clothing distribution points to alleviate at least some of the hardship.
What have the protests «achieved» in the last 2 years?
What keeps him going, what changes in Argentina is he hoping for?
What is the Methodist Church concerned about at the moment - what is causing concern or joy?
Bishop Américo Jara Reyes answers these and (your) other questions in the Connexio Mission Talk.
The conversation, which will last around an hour, will be in Spanish, with translation into German.
