Stability in Turbulent Times – Why We Must Act Now
We at Connexio develop are part of the «Halt in haltlosen Zeiten» campaign. About 40 Swiss aid organizations have joined forces to show why international cooperation is important.
We live in an era marked by multiple crises: wars are ravaging regions, the climate crisis is destroying people’s livelihoods, and millions of people are being forced to flee. These problems are not far away—they also affect Switzerland, a small but globally interconnected country that depends on stable international conditions.
The Problem: A World Out of Balance
The challenges are real and affect us all. Droughts, floods, and other climate-related disasters are on the rise and are currently affecting people in Africa, Asia, and Central and South America. And, with increasing frequency, they are affecting us as well. Wars and violence traumatize entire generations, and their social, political, and economic consequences extend far beyond the conflict zones and reach all the way to Switzerland. Millions of women, men, and children are fleeing hunger, hardship, and violence—a reality that also causes unease here at home.
At the same time, the foundations of a peaceful and just world are coming under increasing pressure: the rule of law, human rights, and democratic values. More and more often, the law of the strongest prevails, and finding solutions together is becoming more difficult.
The Solution: Stability Comes from Acting Together
But there is a way forward. Stability does not arise on its own—it grows where people stand up for one another, take responsibility, and work together toward a better future. Investing in stability costs less than fighting crises.
We, the Swiss aid organizations, implement over 2,400 projects worldwide and reach more than 81 million people—both directly and indirectly—through our work. Our approach: We don’t provide handouts; instead, we focus on education, health, income-generating opportunities, and empowerment. We work together with the people affected so that they can shape their own futures.
What you can do
The good news is: There are many of us. Around the world, millions of people are part of an active civil society that provides aid, defends human rights, and strengthens social cohesion. Every contribution counts—whether through support for aid organizations, local volunteer work, or the awareness that global stability is also in our best interest.
Security arises where people have prospects. Together, step by step, we are building a stable world—from the ground up and through many small and large initiatives. It is time to stop looking away and not let ourselves be discouraged. Because stability in unstable times is possible—if we take responsibility together.
